The Bio-Leadership Project was founded in 2020 with the mission to change the story of leadership by working with nature. This new story is already growing in the world, based on principles that are central to life: cycles, connection, regeneration, reciprocity, and love.

The Fellowship was developed in the context of the COVID pandemic, which intensified people’s need for connection, exposed the failures of many dominant leadership cultures, and opened a window in which people were unusually ready to question what mattered and how change happens. The first Bio-Leadership Fellowship programme ran in 2021 in the spirit of experimentation, and it helped shaped the Fellowship's early DNA around connection, inquiry, and mutual support.

Since then we have hosted six cohorts over six years, with over 250 participants from 53 countries working across sectors. The Fellowship is a community of practice designed to work like nature — a global ecosystem of support and action, with everybody playing a role at this critical moment in time.

In 2026, in the face of financial challenges and noticeable shifts in the kind of opportunities people were looking for, we decided that the sixth cohort of the Fellowship would be our last. We committed to 'ending' with the same spirit of experimentation and with the same depth of integrity as we started, supporting the Fellowship ecosystem transition into new ways of working — including the emergence of a new global cooperative.

While the core Fellowship programme has come to a close, our global mycelium of Fellows continues to connect, collaborate, and do meaningful work in the world.
